Heating repair in Tomball

Furnaces and heat strips checked down to the burners, the draft motor and the safety lockout, with a plain account of what was found.

Chapter 01

The first cold morning is the real test

A heating system in Tomball sits idle for most of the year. It gets through spring, runs nothing all summer while the air conditioner works, and then has to light, draft, blow and shut down safely the first time the temperature drops. Whatever collected on it in the quiet months shows up that morning.

The failures are rarely dramatic. Burners pick up dust, lint and scale and light unevenly. An inducer draft motor drags or hums before it quits. A blower with worn bearings squeals and moves less air than it should. Where the house uses electric heat, a heat strip can stop drawing the amps it was built to draw and leave the air lukewarm. A limit switch trips and the safety lockout holds the system off, which is the equipment doing its job rather than the equipment being broken.

A cracked heat exchanger is the one that matters most. It is not something you can see from the living room, and it is the reason a heating call should go to someone who opens the cabinet and looks.

What the technician checks, in order

Mr. Chill works heating repair from the same checklist the fall tune-up uses, because the checklist is how you find the cause rather than the symptom. The technician inspects the heat exchanger for cracks, cleans and looks over the burners, and watches the burner ignition and the spark ignition controls through a full cycle. He checks the inducer draft motor and the motorised vent damper, measures the heat-strip amps, and listens to the blower bearings.

Then come the safeties. The limit switch and the safety lockout are tested, not assumed. The last number on the sheet is the air temperature rise, the difference between the air going into the furnace and the air coming out of it. It tells the technician whether the system is moving heat the way it should, and it is a figure he can show you rather than describe.

Mr. Chill's technicians are NATE-certified, and the company has served Tomball and the surrounding communities for over 20 years. The part that customers mention in their reviews is the explaining: you hear what was found and what your options are, and you decide with the facts in front of you.

Chapter 03

After the repair, so it is the last one this winter

A repair fixes the part that failed. A fall visit catches the next one before it fails. The Chill Club, $179 a year, includes an annual cooling visit in spring and an annual heating visit in fall, plus priority service when the weather turns and everyone in Klein, Spring and The Woodlands is calling at once. Additional units at the same location are $99 each.

Members get 10% off repairs, additions and cleans, pay no service call fee when a repair is made, and get a two-year warranty on any parts replaced. One customer wrote that the same technician had checked her two units twice a year for about five years and handed her a full report each time. That is what a heating system with a history looks like: nothing surprising in January.

The office is open 6:30 AM to 7 PM, Monday to Saturday, and se habla español. The Texas licence is TACLB27361E.
